The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), has stated that cooperation between Tanzania and the African Development Bank (AfDB) in strategic development projects continues to strengthen, contributing significantly to the country’s economic growth.
He made the remarks on March 25, 2026, while receiving the Letters of Credence of the newly appointed AfDB Resident Representative to Tanzania, Ms. Mary Manneko Monyau, at the Ministry’s sub-office in Dar es Salaam.
Hon. Kombo noted that the partnership is primarily focused on key sectors such as infrastructure, transport, and energy, which form the backbone of Tanzania’s economic transformation. He added that the AfDB is currently financing 27 projects, including the Dodoma Outer Ring Road, the Msalato International Airport, the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), and the submarine electricity interconnection project linking Zanzibar, Pemba, and Mafia islands.
He congratulated Ms. Monyau on her appointment and expressed confidence in her leadership, citing her previous achievements as AfDB Resident Representative in Sudan.
For her part, Ms. Monyau emphasized that the AfDB will continue aligning its programmes with Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050, with a focus on increasing access to financing and supporting projects that enhance economic independence, create youth employment, and develop enabling infrastructure to drive industrialization and regional trade.
